Once you've upgraded your old hard disk why not put that old hard disk to good use by putting it in an external case and using it as a portable external hard drive? This also makes it easy to transfer your data to the new hard disk such as:
1. Install your new hard disk and take out your old hard disk.
2. Install your old hard disk in the external case.
3. Boot your computer from your Mac OS X installation disc (such as the new Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - www.allmacshop.co.uk)
4. Install Mac OS X
5. Connect the external case with your old hard disk in it to your computer.
6. Use the "Migration Assistant" to transfer your user account(s), applications and system settings.
